MIC annual charity lunch

About MATES in Construction

The suicide rate for young workers in the Queensland construction industry is more than TWO times higher than the national average for men. This means a construction worker is up to six times more likely to die from suicide than from an accident at work.

MATES in Construction is a charity set up in 2008 to help reduce the very high rates of suicide in the Queensland construction industry. It also works to improve the mental health and well-being of workers through a range of different training programs and initiatives.

The BERT Redundancy trust established MATES in Construction and is its principal sponsor. A number of key sponsors also now support MATES in Construction, which is rapidly expanding its model across the nation.
